A majority of the British population think the United Kingdom should remain in the European Union, according to a new poll published in The Independent on Sunday. There will be a decisive Parliament vote on Tuesday.
BMG Research took a poll of 1,500 people between 4 and 7 December, which showed that 52% of British people now want to remain in the EU, 40% still want to leave, 6% don’t know and 1% abstained.
Support for Remain has continued to increase since the summer. The Independent said it went above 50% in December.
Nearly half of those who took part think the compromise negotiated by Prime Minister Theresa May is a “bad deal” and 43% think Parliament should reject it on Tuesday.
