Brexit: Theresa May goes to The Hague and Berlin to meet counterparts Rutte and Merkel

On Tuesday, Theresa May is going to The Hague and Berlin, to meet the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, regarding the Brexit withdrawal agreement. The meeting in the Netherlands will take place at 9 a.m. and that in Germany at 1 p.m. The British Prime Minister’s Office communicated the information on Monday evening.

Theresa May has postponed the so-called “meaningful vote” on the divorce agreement from the European Union, originally anticipated for Tuesday in the British parliament (the House of Commons).

A new due date for the vote has not yet been communicated. The British Prime Minister wishes to consult with European leaders. Telephone conversations, which Mrs May has held with the major players in the EU, indicate that there may be further room for negotiation.

The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, announced on Monday that a summit devoted to Brexit had been called on Thursday in Brussels, the first day of the European summit, so as to respond to British concerns around the divorce agreement. He stated, however, that there was no possibility for renegotiation of the withdrawal agreement in its current form.
