American president Donald Trump thinks the UK should opt for a “no-deal" Brexit if negotiations with the European Union fail.

He told British paper The Sunday Times “if they don’t get what they want, they should leave” the negotiations. “If you don’t get a good deal, you get out of there”, he added. The billionaire also said he thought euro-sceptic Nigel Farage should be involved in the discussions.

Donald Trump and his wife Melania will begin a three-day state visit to the UK on Monday. He has spoken to several newspapers about the British government’s policy in the lead-up to the visit. He recently came out in support of Boris Johnson, one of the Conservative MPs in line to succeed soon to be former Prime Minister Theresa May.

During the interview with The Sunday Times, he went on to say the British government shouldn’t pay the Brexit bill, which is estimated at around 39 billion pounds (44 billion euros). “I wouldn’t pay that. That’s a huge amount of money”.

Another recommendation he had was to include Nigel Farage, leader of the Brexit Party, in the negotiations. Mr Trump thought Mr Farage “had a lot to offer”. “He is very intelligent. They won’t include him, but think about how well it would turn out if they did”.
