Football – Over 860 incidents in professional matches last season

A total of 864 incidents were registered at football matches in Belgian professional leagues during the 2014-2015 season, reveal figures from the Home Office, published in SudPresse newspapers on Friday. As well as offences under the football legislation, acts of violence were slightly more frequent last year.  “Violent incidents registered in D1 were on the rise from 81 in 2013-2014 to 118 last season,” points out Cathy Van den Berghe, f.f. director of the Football Cell at the Home Office.

Offenders were severely penalised. 985 people were banned from stadiums and fines amounted to 439,720 euros. The harshest punishment during the 2014-2015 season was a 39-month ban and 2,00-euro fine.
