More than 850 police officers from Wallonia and Brussels will ensure spectator’s safety and control traffic around the Spa-Francorchamps circuit during the Belgian Grand Prix. They will be present day and night. The Grand Prix will take place during the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of August. Foreign officers will join Belgian officers, the federal police announced in a press release on Monday. For those heading to the site, police advise drivers not to use a GPS on the outskirts of the circuit. A special traffic plan has been put in place, and up to date information will be put on social media. Different routes are planned depending on the type of ticket spectators have.
To avoid queues, federal police suggest taking the E25-A26 rather than the E42-A27, which is generally very busy during the F1 Grand Prix. There will be special bus services leaving from the Verviers station between 7.30am and 11.30am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, provided by the TEC. The buses back will be between 2pm and 7pm. Buses will be added to regular lines 294 and 395 to Verviers and 744 to Spa from 2pm on Sunday, to take people back from Francorchamps.
Foreign police will lend a hand to their Belgian counterparts. Belgian officers will be backed up by around 30 German, Luxemburg, French and Dutch officers. The Red Cross is planning 6 medical posts and will call up 105 First aiders. 11 ambulances will be ready to act if needed.
