Eurocup 2016: Almost four million Belgians watched Belgium-Italy

The Belgium-Italy match broadcast Monday on La Une at 21:00 registered an average of 1,675,518 TV spectators, which represents a market portion of 77.6%. It was the largest audience in TV spectators registered since the audimetric form of measurement was established in 1997, stated the public network Tuesday in a communiqué.

As market share, the Belgium-USA match of the 2014 World Cup round of sixteen broadcast on July 1st, 2014 at 22:00 still leads, with 85.1%, RTBF mentioned. The La Une match was also followed by 13,120 TV spectators in the North, added the public network. Noteworthy is the fact that the match which ended in a defeat of Diables Rouges before the Squadra Azzura (0-2) was followed by 2,222,918 TV spectators on Eén, which is also the largest audience on record for a match of the UEFA European Nations Cup.    

Together this makes a total of 3,911,556 TV spectators who watched the Belgium match; three out of four TV spectators in the South, and almost four out of five in the North. The Belgium-USA round of sixteen match of the 2014 World Cup remains however, in terms of accumulated audience, the programme which brought together the greatest number of Belgians in front of their TV sets, with slightly over four million spectators.
