Red Devils – The “perfect result”, says Vincent Kompany

Vincent Kompany is celebrating a second consecutive win with the Red Devils, after their match in Estonia on Friday. The Red Devils won 2-0, while Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina drew 0-0 in Zenica. “It’s the perfect result. Because of the state of the pitch, we knew it was going to be difficult. Greece also lost points in Bosnia. It could mean a good campaign, if we win the next two matches it will be a great start”, the Belgian captain told RTBF.

“We played a good match. We had to cope with the conditions, the bad pitch against a well-organised team. We tried to go for it. Estonia being reduced to ten men didn’t really change the match”, Kompany added. “The goal came at the right time. After that, it was just a question of not making any mistakes, controlling the game well. We tried to get a second goal, but their Keeper and two central defenders did really well”.

After not playing in the national team for a year and a half because of injury, Kompany said he “savoured every moment”. The captain has already called on fans to turn up at the next matches. “We have to take into account the fact there was a large number of supporters for an away match. If we could have the same in Greece on the 3rd of September, it would be a huge bonus for us”.
