Pierre François has announced that video refereeing will be used for the first time in Belgium during the Supercup between Anderlecht and Zulte Waregem on 22 July. This was revealed by the general manager of the Pro League at a press conference at the Martin’s Red Hotel in Tubize on Monday.
After many off-line tests last season, forty-eight matches will be video-assisted this season in the Jupiler Pro League, 6 per club. “Off-line testing was done last season and this year 48 matches will be assisted by video refereeing and will be influenced by this new technology”, Pierre François said.
“If the International Federation of Football (FIFA) confirms the entry into force of the video refereeing for the 2018-2019 season, we will be ready”. he said.
