World Championships: bronze medal for Belgium in ju-jitsu

Bjarne Lardon and Ben Cloostermans won the bronze medal in the double men’s ju-jitsu event at the World Championships in Wroclaw, Poland, on Saturday. It’s the 23rd medal for Belgium.

Although the two Belgians were defeated by the Netherlands in the semi-final, they beat Montenegro in the bronze medal fight. Lardon and Cloostermans scored 95.5 points to their opponent’s 92. It was Belgium’s 23rd medal in Poland, and their 5th in ju-jitsu.

The Belgian ju-jitsu team had a great day on Friday, with Amal Amjahid getting gold (-55kg), Wim Deputter getting silver (-77kg), and Florent Minguet getting bronze (-94kg) along with Charis Gravensteyn and Ian Lodens in the mixed double.

On the 9th day of the World Championships in Wroclaw, Belgium had 23 medals (6 gold, 9 silver and 8 bronze).

The gold medals came from the women’s 4x25m  lifeguard relay (Aurélie Romanini, Stefanie Lindekens, Sofie Boogaerts and Bieke Vandenabeele), Anak Verhoeven in climbing, Bart Swings in the 20 km elimination and 10 km by points events in roller skating, and Amal Amajahid in ju-jitsu (-55kg).

The World Championships finish on Sunday.
