World Cup (women) - Belgium gets its revenge on Turkey (78-60) during a friendly match in Vilvorde

Belgium got its revenge on Turkey by beating them 78-60 (43-32 at half-time) during their second match against the Turks in Vilvorde on Saturday. The Turks came fifth at the last Euro competition. The Belgian Cats are preparing for the World Cup in Tenerife at the end of September.

The two Belgian spearheads did not play: Ann Wauters has a knee injury and Emma Meesseman has a sprain. Antonia Delaere came back to the field after receiving a sprain in Valence last week. Belgium got most of their points with distance shots through Julie Allemand (15 points) and Julie Vanloo (17 points). Kyara Linskens got a double-double (15 points, 9 conversions) to give Belgium the victory.

The Belgian Cats still have two matches to play against Argentina, in Natoye on Friday (9pm) and in Courtrai on Sunday afternoon (2.15pm). Argentina have qualified for the World Cup and are the South American champions for the first time in 70 years after beating Brazil (65-64) in the final in Tunja (Columbia).

Belgium is in Group C for the World Cup in Tenerife, which will run from the 22nd to the 30th of September. Also in their group are Spain, Japan and Puerto Rico. This is the first time Belgium (both men and women) has competed in an adult World Cup.
