The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) on Wednesday announced the launch of an online survey on the attractiveness of road cycling and expectations for the evolution of the discipline.

The survey offers members of the public an opportunity to give their opinions on issues such as the use of headsets by teams and their riders, the use of power sensors in competitions, team sizes and budgets, race formats, broadcasting events and information giving during races.

The poll, which will remain open until 16 July, is available in eight languages. It is part of a process launched by the UCI to consult cycling stakeholders in the broad sense, and its results will feed into a series of proposals to be submitted for approval to the Professional Cycling Council and the UCI board in 2020.

A central focus of the UCI’s 2022 Agenda is to develop the attractiveness of road races, UCI President David Lappartient (France) explained. To achieve this, it is essential to have a precise idea of the opinions, not only of the various stakeholders in cycling, but also the wider public, fans and occasional spectators alike, he added.

The survey gives everyone an opportunity to express his or her opinion and is part of an approach aimed at enabling the UCI to take measures to modernise road cycling and meet the expectations of the wider public, the UCI head stressed.

Lappartient also thanked, in advance, all people who will have agreed to give a few minutes of their time in order to contribute to the evolution of the sport.
