Bart Swings wins silver in the World Roller-skating Championships marathon

Bart Swings took the silver medal in the marathon at the World Roller-skating Championships in Barcelona on Sunday. 

The Louvain resident came second behind Frenchman Nolan Beddiaf at the Passeig de Gràcia. The 2018 champion, German Felix Rijhnen, came third. 

In the women’s race, Belgium's Sandrine Tas finished amongst the peloton. The gold went to Italian Francesa Lollobrigida. Colombian Johana Viveros came second and German Sabine Berg came got third place.  

Belgium managed to win 12 medals in the 2019 Championships (six gold, 2 silver and four bronze). Belgium is second in the medal table, behind Colombia.

Bart Swings won seven of them himself. This is the best Belgium have ever done in these championships: it got nine medals at the 2013 championships in Ostende.
