Local media outlets are reporting that a Belgian academic was shot dead in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The victim is believed to be Dominique Boxus, a 56-year-old man who taught literature at the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), located in Niteroi, in the State of Rio.
According to witnesses, he was hit by a stray bullet. A friend, who was out with him that night, told O Dia newspaper that they had heard gunshots fired in the street and sought refuge inside a café. But, despite this precaution, his Belgian friend was hit in the chest.
