Police on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria are launching an investigation into the suspicious death of a Belgian tourist, according to the local press on Friday. The 59-year-old man died on Wednesday whilst enjoying the nightlife with friends on Plage des Anglais. Another Belgian in the same group was taken to hospital. The tourist was drinking with 5 friends when he collapsed. Staff performed first aid and called emergency services. Another Belgian also suddenly showed signs of respiratory failure.
Both were taken to Maspalomas hospital where the 59-year-old died. His friend was then taken to Insular Hospital in the island’s capital. The circumstances of the death are not yet clear but witnesses mentioned alcohol intoxication.
