Final farewell to the Belgian victim of the Bamako attack

The Nederbrakel church, in Eastern Flanders, was full to burst on Saturday morning, for the final farewell to the former Belgian soldier who lost his life at the start of March in the attack in Bamako (Mali). Ronny Piens was 44 years old, and working as a security advisor for the European Union. He died on the 7th of March during an attack on a restaurant in the Malian capital. The victim was a lieutenant colonel, officer with the Order of the Crown, and a knight of the Leopold order.

Delegations from the Defense department, the Foreign office, and diplomacy personnel, as well as Alexander and Herman De Croo, were all at the ceremony.

A Frenchman and 3 Malians also lost their lives in the Bamako attack.
