Real life data on CO2 emissions from passenger cars shows they are 38% higher than data given by car manufacturers, according to the latest research by ICCT (International Council on Clean Transportation), published by the daily De Morgen on Monday. Research took place in 6 countries and included 600,000 cars of various makes. It revealed that real emissions as well as fuel consumption are going down, but not as fast as carmakers pretend. Researchers ask for stricter tests to be carried out by independent entities, amongst other things.

As for the scandal involving vehicles with rigged Volkswagen engines in Belgium, Finance Minister Johan Van Overtveldt (N-VA) pointed out that drivers concerned should not be fiscally penalised for a fraud committed by the German carmaker.
