Family of 5 found dead at home near Lille

The bodies of 5 members of the same family were discovered at their home in a Lille suburb in the north of France on Wednesday evening, revealed a police source. The bodies of 3 children, the youngest only 6 months old, and their mother, as well as the father, who hanged himself, were found at their home in a residential neighbourhood of Haubourdin, 7km west of Lille.

The father allegedly wrote a letter explaining his actions after killing his family.

A very wide security perimeter was established around the 2-storey brick house set on a small square with a car park, noted an AFP (Agence France Presse) reporter. Forensic identification officers were at work within the perimeter late on Wednesday.

Approximately 15 neighbours were around the edgess of the cordoned-off area, many of them in tears. They heard the emergency services arriving at approximately 8:00pm local time.

“The family had not lived there long, more or less a year. This is a very peaceful residential neighbourhood where children ride their bikes and their scooters,” said a neighbour, Christelle, to the AFP reporter.

A local source revealed that no-one had heard from the family in the past few days.
