Members of the main Congolese opposition party, UDPS (Union for Democracy and Social Progress) have filed a complaint against their party President, Etienne Tshisekedi wa Mulumba, accused of “unilaterally editing” the party’s constitution, and have also asked for explanations for “unjustified” expenses, announced their attorney late on Tuesday. The complaint was handed to a Brussels investigating judge by several active members of the UDPS representative group in Benelux on November 19th.
It targets Mr. Tshisekedi – currently “recovering” in Belgium, since August 2014, though he did announce he was soon to head back to Kinshasa – and several members of his family, added Ms. Fanny Vansiliette in a press release sent to news agency Belga.
The plaintiffs make accusations of “forgery,” “fraud,” and “theft” and/or “extortion.”
According to Ms. Vansiliette, the UDPS constitution seems to have been changed unilaterally by its president. “Article 10 was edited to delete “democratically getting, exercising, and keeping power” as aims for the organisation, which means it has lost its status of political party one year ahead of the next elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” explains the attorney, from law firm Uyttendaele, Gérard, Kennes and associates.
