Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who devoted her live to the most disadvantaged people, has been declared a saint by Pope Francis. He made the announcement at the start of a canonization mass on Saint Peter’s square in Rome on Sunday, in front of 100,000 followers.
“We declare the blessed Teresa of Calcutta a saint and place her alongside the other saints, and decree she is to be worshipped as such by the Church as a whole”, said Pope Francis, when reading the ‘canonization’ rite.
