A Former President of the Chamber of Representatives accused of child abuse

A former President of the Chamber of Representatives, Dennis Hastert, has been accused of abusing at least 5 children several decades ago. This was while he was a Sports teacher at a high school in Illinois, Prosecutors announced.

At the end of 2015, Mr Hastert pleaded guilty to tax fraud linked to a payment of more than 1 million dollars, to cover up a sex scandal from his past. The case will go before the Illinois tribunal on the 27th of April. The Prosecutor’s office has claimed the payment was used to buy the silence of an abuse victim. The former Republican President of the Chamber of Representatives (1999-2007) is said to have abused at least 4 children while he was a Sports coach at an Illinois school. The youngest victim was 14 at the time. He cannot be tried for the presumed abuse, which took place in the 60s and 80s, but the Prosecutor’s office wants him to do 6 months in prison for the illegal payments.
