The Dutch charity event ‘3FM Serious Request,' equivalent to De Warmste Week in Flanders, has raised €11.5 million.
This was announced on Tuesday evening, the final day of the event.
This year, funds were collected for Metakids, an organisation that supports research into metabolic diseases in children.
This is the first time since 2014 that ‘Serious Request’ has raised more than €10 million. The 2014 edition remains the most successful one, with nearly €12.4 million collected.
Three DJs from the NPO 3FM radio station – Barend van Deelen, Sophie Hijlkema, and Wijnand Speelman – spent the past week in the Glass House in the Dutch city of Zwolle. People could contribute by supporting a fundraising action or requesting a song in exchange for a donation.
The most requested song was ‘Fix You’ by Coldplay. Other popular requests included ‘Flappie’ by Youp van ‘t Hek and ‘Europapa’ by Joost Klein.
‘Serious Request’ has been organised annually since 2004.
