Rundown on Rock Werchter 2022: Belgian talent shines

The 46th edition of Rock Werchter took place over the weekend, with 88,000 festival-goers from 95 different countries.

Who was playing?

Over the four-day festival, attendees were treated to 100 different bands and artists.

Among the headliners were American bands Imagine Dragons, Metallica, Pearl Jam, The Killers, as well as Måneskin, the winners of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.

The festival also featured Belgian acts such as Bazart, STIKSTOF, Lous and The Yakuza. The total number of homegrown artists performing was 17, the most ever in the festival's history.

On the opening night of the festival, a tribute was also held for recently deceased Belgian singer Arno, who died of cancer in April.

How did attendees get there?

According to Belga News Agency, De Lijn buses transported up to 100,000 people to the festival.

An additional 12,000 cycled to the festival each day.

Did they behave?

Festival-goers and campers are said to have left the festival site quickly and "without incident". This is according to the event's communications manager Nele Bigaré.

She also told Belga News Agency that there was a reduction in the amount of litter left by campers, as well as on the meadow. "We are pleased that festival attendees followed our instructions," she added.

During the festival, no major incidents were reported and the Red Cross announced that it had treated 5800 spectators, mainly for blisters, headaches and scrapes. This figure is comparable to previous years.

When's the next edition?

Next year's festival will take place from 29 June to 2 July 2023.
