With roaring inflation, it is now more than ever key to keep an eye out for our budgets. We look for adequate accommodation and reasonable flights, but good intentions aren't always enough when we're experiencing the clear blue skies of holiday destinations.

So here are a few tips to avoid the pitfall of exceeding your budget.

Plan different budgets

Thinking about a budget is a bummer when you're finally off. Before leaving, create different budgets for different activities. One could be for shopping, another for food and drink, another for outings. The aim is to set limits, without stopping yourself from enjoying life.

Tipping culture

Different countries have different norms when it comes to tips. Best to do basic research beforehand to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Organise activities in advance

Planning activities beforehand is a good idea because it can often be a little cheaper than on site. It can also help you skip queues!

Consult the locals

There's a reason for the saying, 'when in Rome, do as the Romans do'. It is solid advice to avoid getting ripped off in tourists traps. Basically, check in with locals by asking for their advice and follow it. They can give tips on where to go and what to do without spending too much. Checking Instagram accounts within the city you want to visit is also advisable.

Visit regular restaurants

It basically is another version of advice number 4. You can ask locals or do some research before to avoid going to whatever is nearby, which may be charging too much.

Eat and drink wisely

Try fresh and seasonal products. Check out where the locals are going. Bring your own water, so you do not have to pay for overpriced water.

Communicate for free

Go for free wifi. If you're in Europe, it will not be a problem due to the end of roaming. But not so if you're outside of Europe, where using data can wreck havoc with your budget.
