The eighth edition of the Smaakmeesters culinary festival will take place on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October, the City of Antwerp, which is organising the event, announced on Friday.

During the festival, visitors will be able to taste the specialties presented by a hundred caterers and specialised shops. Two novelties this year: an art market, where culinary paintings will be exhibited, and the Cartoon cinema, which will show films related to gastronomy.

'Smaakmeesters' will take place across the city. In addition to the tastings, other activities will be organised, such as a treasure hunt and an exhibition on coloring textiles with ingredients, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp.

The food showcased by this festival is very varied: typical Flemish dishes will mix with exotic specialties, coffees with cocktails, and breakfasts with desserts.

"Smaakmeesters is innovative. It sets the tone, it brings the best of the best and you can meet stars there," said Koen Kennis, Alderman for Tourism. "Our chefs are excellent ambassadors for the city, we should not underestimate what they do for the image of Antwerp."

Chef Dennis Broeckx, from the Epicerie du Cirque restaurant will offer visitors the 'Smaakmeesters Deluxe,' an exclusive three-course menu, at the Antwerp Opera, upon registration.
