Over 120 local and foreign beers waiting to be discovered this weekend in Liège

More than 120 Belgian and foreign beers will be on offer during Hoppy Days, the Liège beer festival, to be held from Friday to Sunday at the Fonck Barracks, Marc Lievens of the Liège Events non-profit association said on Monday.

Some 5,000 people took part in the last edition of Hoppy Days, which was in 2019. The event did not take place thereafter, first due to the Covid-19 pandemic and then to the floods in mid-July 2021, which affected the festival's intended venue, the Palais des congrès in Liège.

This time around, the Hoppy Days will be held at the Caserne Fonck on Rue Ransonnet.

"During the year, we tasted no fewer than 200 beers to finally select a good forty, based on the criteria of innovation, quality and originality, which we will offer at our bar," the organisers said. "We will thus have the Westvleteren 12, voted best beer in the world, as well as beers with particular flavours, such as tiramisu."

Other beers will be presented by the breweries themselves, all in a musical atmosphere provided by groups and DJs, including a special 2000s evening on Saturday.

The first pancake party will be part of the event on Sunday, combining a multitude of pancakes, specialties from different countries, with the different Hoppy Days beers.

In addition, demonstrations of cardiac resuscitation and the handling of an automatic external defibrillator (AED) will be given on Friday and Saturday. This ties in with the recent installation of around 20 automatic external defibrillators in the streets of Liège.
