Cinematek, the Royal Belgian Film Archive, will celebrate the recent nomination of Belgian film "Close" at the Oscars by screening other former Belgian nominees. The programme, titled "Belgian at the Academy Awards", will run from 1 February to 12 March at Flagey Cinema.

Directed by Lukas Dhont, "Close" became the eighth Belgian film to receive a nomination at the Oscars. Cinematek will screen previous Belgian Oscar nominations, starting with the short film "A Greek Tragedy", which was released in 1986 and is the only Belgian film to have ever won an Academy Award.

Cinematek will then focus on works that were nominated for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars. These are "Paix sur les champs" released in 1970, "Daens" (1992) and "Farinelli" (1994), and finally "Everybody Famous!", released in 2000. The selection will be completed by the two most recent nominees, "Rundskop" (2010) and "The Broken Circle Breakdown" (2014).

Non-Belgian Oscar winners such as "The Sound of Metal," which was shot in Antwerp, and "Tess", whose cinematographer was Belgian, will also be shown.

Furthermore, "All Quiet on the Western Front," the German picture that is widely expected to beat out "Close" for Best International Feature Film at this year's Oscars, will be shown at Cinematek.
