The 15th edition of the Ostend Film Festival began on Friday evening, with Dominique Deruddere’s 'The Chapel' as opener.

More than 100 films, 70 of them previews, will be screened at the festival, which ends on 4 February.

This is the first time that the Ostend Film Festival has started in January.

Big names from the Belgian film world scheduled to grace the red carpet over the next few days include Belgian-American director Jessica Woodworth, who will present her film 'LUKA,' and Emmanuel Nicot with his feature film 'Dalva,' which seduced audiences during Critics' Week at the last Cannes Festival.

For her part, Pola Rapaport will present her documentary on the last years of the life of Paralympic champion Marieke Vervoort.

As usual, the festival will end with the Ensors Gala, during which the Flemish film and television awards will be presented.
