Some 255,000 Belgians living abroad have registered with the Foreign Affairs Ministry to vote in this Sunday's elections. Those who have chosen to vote in person at their embassy can do so today, between 13:00 and 19:00 local time.

Belgians abroad will be able to vote in the elections for the Federal and the European Parliament, but not in the regional elections. As in Belgium, 16 and 17-year-olds can only vote for the European Parliament.

While more than 525,000 Belgians live abroad (almost 420,000 of them adults), just 255,000 have registered with Foreign Affairs to cast their vote. The vast majority of them – some 178,000 – will do so by post.

Belgians abroad can also choose to vote by proxy (by appointing someone to vote for them), either in Belgium or at a consular post.

For the European elections, there is a difference between Belgians living inside and outside the EU; while the former can vote on a list from their country of residence, the latter can vote only on a Belgian list.
