A business park in Braine-l’Alleud has been granted an ordinance by their municipality to remove members of the traveller community from their premises.

SA Parc de l'Alliance, which runs a business park in Braine-l'Alleud, a municipality in the Walloon Brabant region, claims that the community had installed hundreds of caravans and vehicles on their land.

They have also accused them of hooking up their vans to electricity cabins, lighting poles, and fire hydrants.

To that end, the park was granted an ordinance by the municipality of Braine-l'Alleud to demand that the community leave their site.

The municipality said that the situation posed a risk to public safety – particularly if the Travellers were using the fire hydrants which could lead to them being inoperable in the event of a fire or drought.

The mayor of Braine-l'Alleud, Vincent Scourneau, met with members of the camp and warned them that they had 24 hours to evacuate the site or face a fine of €250 per day and per person.

The municipality had declared that they would not hesitate to call on police intervention to enforce this decision, but by Friday afternoon, the community had progressively left the premises.
