Federal police issue wanted notice to track down René Tonneaux: still on the run.

The federal police have issued a wanted notice as part of the judicial investigation to find René Tonneaux, aged 64, a former accountant at the Office Wallon des Déchets (OWD - Walloon Waste Bureau) suspected of having embezzled over an 8-year offending period. The evidence leads us to believe that he is still on Belgian territory,” the Namur Public Prosecutor, Vincent Macq, commented conceding that this notice could be a “double-edged sword” since it might have the effect of forcing René Tonneaux to flee beyond our borders. “It is the decision of the investigating judge who considers that now is the right time,” he added.

At the request of the investigating judge in Namur who is responsible for the case, the police now state that the sexagenarian would probably be in a Subaru “Levorg break” model, grey and with registration 1-NBF-606.

If individuals know where René Tonneaux is, they should make contact with the investigators via the freephone number 0800/30.300 or by e-mail at the address avisderecherche@police.belgium.eu.

The accountant had admitted to his superiors that he had embezzled inter-municipal subsidies into his personal accounts. The police were only alerted on Tuesday February 16th that the sexagenarian had been able to leave the local authority premises on the afternoon of Monday February 15th. Since then, he has not been in touch.

René Tonneaux's wife was arrested for money laundering and is being held in Lantin prison. Several objects such as luxury brand handbags were found at the marital home in Cognelée. On February 23rd, the Namur court in chambers decided to detain her for a month and then to formally decide at that time whether she should continue to be held.
