N-VA loses a lot of votes in Limburg, Vlaams Belang only gains

The Flemish nationalist party N-VA is losing a lot of votes in the province of Limburg, mostly in favour of the more far-right Vlaams Belang, according to a poll by newspaper Het Belang van Limburg. The newspaper surveyed 1,004 people from the province of Limburg about their electoral intentions for Sunday 26 May.

While the N-VA party is still the biggest, the party with Zuhal Demir (photo) as its most prominent figure in Limburg lost a quarter of its votes (-8,4%), which brings it to 23%. The Christian Democrats (CD&V) lost a few votes, but are still in second place with 22,2% according to the poll.

Vlaams Belang, the far-right Flemish nationalist party, gained 8,2% and became Limburg's third biggest party with 14,3% of the poll votes.

Socialist party sp.a that traditionally has always done well in the province loses 3,5% and ends in fourth place with 14,2%. Open Vld, the Flemish liberals, end up in fifth place with 11%.

For the first time since 1999, environmentalist party Groen reached the electoral threshold of 10% in the Limburg province.
