Election posters on the wall of a house in Hamme, East Flanders, belonging to Councillor Jan Rosschaert (Vooruit), were set on fire early on Sunday morning.

The damaged posters featured party colleagues Lotte De Blende and Joris Vandenbroucke, candidates for the Chamber of Representatives for the Flemish socialist party.

A passer-by spotted the fire around 06:30, which Rosschaert himself managed to extinguish.

The blaze did not spread, keeping damage minimal. The culprits behind the arson remain unknown, but local police are investigating.
