Significant storms on Sunday night led to floods in Ernage, part of the Gembloux district, as reported by NAGE area firefighters.
About 90 litres of rain per square metre fell on Gembloux at around 20:00. Two streets were seriously affected.
Due to the high water levels and mudslides, residents were advised to stay safe in their homes until rescue operations could begin on Monday morning. One person relying on oxygen was also evacuated in the evening.
Firefighters arrived at the site at 07:00 on Monday to assist the residents. Several pump and clean-up teams were still working around 10:00. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, but the damages were substantial.
