A suspect has been arrested in connection with a series of violent robberies committed in 2023 in Anderlecht, the Office of the Public Prosecutor (OPP) in Brussels reported on Tuesday.
The robberies, which mainly targeted unaccompanied women and the elderly, were perpetrated between May and August in the Brussels muncipality, the Brussels OPP stated.
The suspect moved around on a white electric scooter and snatched chains and mobile phones from his victims.
Following an extensive investigation, the Urban Delinquency (DU) section of the Brussels-Midi police zone identified the suspect as a 21-year-old homeless man.
Investigators were able to link the young man to six robbery cases, based on the way he operated. He had been flagged and actively sought by the DU for some time.
On 24 May, he was located and detained.
After his hearing, the man was charged with robbery with violence and placed under arrest by the examining magistrate.
