Les Engagés "do not veto any individuals for the Prime Minister position," according to party member Jean-Luc Crucke during a VRT interview.
Crucke's comment came after doubts whether Bart De Wever (N-VA) was suitable as Prime Minister were raised by his leader of Les Engagés Maxime Prévot. While Crucke clarified that the centre-right party is not against any specific individual stepping into the role, he reminded viewers that "De Wever has said several unpleasant things about Walloons that we cannot easily forget."
He also reassured the public that a federal government agreement could be facilitated without implementing new taxes. Despite the fact that fiscal cuts are necessary, Les Engagés is critical of the healthcare cuts suggested by N-VA and advocates instead for "resource optimisation".
In the same interview, Crucke referred to the European Commission’s instruction to Belgium to save at least €23 billion over a span of four to seven years. He is optimistic that there is room to negotiate with the EU regarding this issue. "Significant funding would be required for areas such as climate change and defence, so the EU should display some degree of flexibility," he believes.
