Sibelga has announced the launch of an information campaign concerning the mandatory registration of electric vehicle charging points in Brussels.

The digital campaign, named 'Proud of Your Charge Point,' aims to encourage citizens to notify Sibelga, which manages the electricity and gas distribution network, of their charging installations.

Despite the growing popularity of electric vehicles among both businesses and individuals, the legal requirement to register charge points is largely unknown. This regulation applies to all types of set-ups, whether charge point or cable, regardless of their power capacity.

Registering these points allows the network manager to catalogue and monitor all electricity withdrawals in Brussels, ensuring the network’s smooth operation and balance. Registration also helps it to understand customer needs and potentially strengthen the network if necessary.

“One of Sibelga’s challenges is to anticipate the evolution of needs and new uses in order to make appropriate technical and economic decisions ensuring reliable and high-quality energy access," Sibelga CEO, Inne Mertens stressed.

"By adjusting behaviours - for example, charging vehicles late in the evening or overnight when energy is most abundant and affordable - customers will play an active role in this energy transition,” Mertens added.

Charge point owners can register at https://fierdetaborne.sibelga.be. The process can be completed in just a few clicks.
