Overall, 3,614,495 French-speaking Belgians watched at least one of the 51 Euro 2024 matches broadcasted on the RTBF, representing 80.5% of Francophones, the French-language public media stated on Monday.
On average, 426,017 viewers watched each match throughout the tournament hosted in Germany. The grand finale, in which Spain beat England to secure its fourth European championship title, attracted an audience of 837,472.
The most watched match was France versus Belgium,with 1,239,268 viewers, 77.4% of the audience share. Large numbers of Belgian viewers also watched other fixtures involving the Red Devils.
The matches against Slovakia, Ukraine, and Romania attracted 1,102,818, 1,167,316, and 1,143,704 viewers respectively. The tournament opener between Germany and Scotland garnered a 46.5% audience share on RTBF, a record since Euro 2000.
Other popular matches were Spain-Italy (607,840 viewers), France-Spain (726,781), and France-Portugal (703,309).
Throughout the tournament, there were 7,595,000 views recorded on Auvio, almost doubling the 4,825,000 views of Euro 2020 (played in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic) on the same platform. Here again, the France-Belgium match attracted the highest number of digital viewers (457,000).
Finally, RTBF’s Euro-focused programmes averaged 177,058 viewers for 'Fußballclub' and 116,000 for 'Wunderbar.'
