A 46-year-old man has been shot in Lembeek, next to Halle.

The assailant, a 39-year-old man, surrendered to police shortly after in the afternoon. A dispute between the two men is believed to have sparked the incident.

The victim was parking his car at a furniture store car park on chaussée de Mons when he was hit by two shots.

Ambulance quickly arrived to the scene, taking the severely injured man to hospital. His condition is currently stable.

“The prosecutor’s office has sent a ballistics expert, a forensic pathologist and personnel from the federal police laboratory to the scene,” Sabine Lievens, the prosecutor’s office spokesperson, said. “According to initial findings, the man was shot in his car, through the open window.”

After the incident, the shooter fled but turned himself in to police later in the day.

“We don’t yet know his motives, but this is certainly not an act of terrorism or a random attack,” the spokesperson confirms. “The victim and alleged perpetrator know each other, suggesting personal conflict as the likely cause. The suspect is expected to face a court hearing
