Antwerp’s historical centre, including the Grote Markt and Groenplaats, experienced an unusual power failure on Monday morning.
The city confirmed that the outage resulted from a cable being struck during construction works. The network operator, Fluvius, was promptly on site to repair the affected cable.
In the meantime, areas including the Grote Markt, Groenplaats, Melkmarkt, and Steenplein were temporarily without power.
A statement from Antwerp city centre specified that Fluvius had successfully repaired the cable, with power now having been restored in the historical centre.
Companies and locations with their own power cabin must reconnect them to have electricity again, the city said on social media.
