A Scout camp of around 20 people had to be evacuated due to inclement weather conditions in Manhay, Luxembourg Province, the city's mayor disclosed on Wednesday.

The emergency services of the Luxembourg region notified the local authorities on Tuesday evening that a French-speaking Scout group of around 20 youngsters was having difficulty at a camp on Deux-Rys Street due to a severe storm, Mayor Geoffrey Huet said.

Mayor Huet said there had been large hailstones, broken branches and damaged tents, but confirmed that no one was injured. “I have arranged for them to be sheltered at the L’Entente Hall in Manhay, and allowed access to the sports centre for them to take showers,” said Huet. “The firefighters preferred to keep them indoors as a safety measure. This made sure that  they could spend the night dry and warm.”

The young campers - teenagers escorted by young adults - had been wrapping up their camp when the severe weather struck. They returned to the site on Wednesday morning to collect their belongings and leave the area.
