Belgian novelist, short story writer, and scriptwriter Paul Koeck has died at the age of 83, his partner, Reinhilde Dewit, told the VTM channel on Thursday.
Koeck authored fiction and non-fiction, plays, and scripts for television and film. He was an established contributor to numerous magazines such as Humo and Knack, and the daily newspaper De Morgen.
Born in Boom, Antwerp Province, on 20 August 1940, Koeck initially worked as a teacher before becoming a full-time writer in the early 1970s. In 1964, he penned his debut novel 'Litte,' inspired by his grandfather’s nickname, and went on to write novels including 'Chinchilla’s kweken' (1967), 'Het Plantenoffensief' (1969), 'De gigolo' (1985), and 'Le petit Belge' (2004). His final novel, 'De jaloersmaker,' was published in 2010.
Koeck's first book translated into French was 'Le Semeur de panique' (1984).
Trained in scriptwriting both in Belgium and abroad, he wrote for the VRT (then known as BRTN) during the 70s and 80s, and later for VTM.
His notable achievements include adapting all the works of Flemish novelist Gerard Walschap into a 26-episode series.
