A 41-year-old man from Aalst, who disappeared in Ostend on Sunday evening, has been found and is safe and well, according to local Ostend police.
The exact circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear.
Just before 9 pm, two of the man’s friends alerted emergency services. They reported that he went swimming between 6:30 pm and 7 pm, but did not see him exit the water.
Police and fire services immediately initiated a search for the potential drowning victim, though initially without success. The search was called off at 11:20 pm, with plans to resume on Monday morning.
However, just before 7 am on Monday, the Ostend local police announced that the Aalst man had been found.
According to the police, he is reportedly in good health. Details about what happened remain unclear at this time.
