Some 3,800 people took part in the inaugural Liège Pride parade on Saturday afternoon, Liège police on social media on Sunday morning, Belga News Agency reports. The festivities will continue throughout Sunday.

Police had initially estimated the number of participants at 2,000, but there were at least 3,800 who processed through the streets at the very first Walloon Pride parade on Saturday. This figure does not include the number of spectators, the police clarified.

For its first edition, Liège Pride brought together six floats and around 15 delegations who paraded through the streets of the city centre.

"This afternoon, the City of Liège shone in rainbow colours for Liège Pride! Thank you to everyone who joined the procession to celebrate love, equality and diversity," City Councillor Gilles Foret (MR) posted on social media. "Together, let's build an inclusive city where everyone can be proud of who they are!"

The theme of this Pride is the harassment to which LGBTQ+ people are still subjected on a daily basis.

The festivities kicked off on Friday and will end on Sunday with a brunch in Parc de la Boverie. The event is already sold out.
