A newly formed political group, 'Ensemble Verviers' (‘Together Verviers') launched its campaign on Thursday evening at the Peigne Theatre in Verviers, Liège Province, in front of a significant crowd of supporters.
The new coalition, which brings together the Mouvement Réformateur, Les Engagés, Nouveau Verviers and DéFI, has high hopes of winning October's municipal elections and “lifting Verviers out of its economic gloom.”
Its lead trio comprises Councillor Maxime Degey (MR), Economic Affairs Councillor Cécile Ozer (Les Engagés), and the Councillor for Culture, Jean-François Chefneux (Nouveau Verviers). They unveiled the 37 names on their list, and discussed the broad outlines of the new coalition's programme.
Ensemble Verviers aims to modernise local administration, make the city more liveable, and reduce unemployment. It also plans to continue with ongoing major cultural projects and safeguard Verviers’ heritage.
In addition, the alliance pledges to tackle incivility and rampant fly-tipping within its jurisdiction.
The group also advocates for resilience to combat flooding more effectively.
