Alderman Anthony Dufrane, a former socialist parliamentarian who joined the Mouvement Réformateur (MR) party in April, will lead the MR list in the upcoming municipal elections in Charleroi.
The liberal party revealed its candidate line-up on Thursday evening.
Nicolas Tzanetatos and Denis Ducarme, who had been expected to top the list, are now in the third and last places respectively.
A major surprise in the line-up is the inclusion of Fabienne Devillers, an outgoing member of the provincial parliament. She was a candidate for the top slot on the Hainaut provincial list, but she appears to have been nudged aside due to the desire of Lucie Demaret, MR leader Georges-Louis Bouchez' partner, to occupy the same slot.
This reshuffle has reportedly stirred some discontent within MR's Charleroi chapter.
Jean-Noel Gillard is also on the list. A Défi municipal councillor since 2018, he chose to join the MR for the upcoming municipal elections.
