Shared bikes in Ghent have been used for 657,843 journeys so far this year, surpassing the total for the whole of 2023, according to data released on Monday by the city.
Last year's tally was 653,125 reserved rides.
Shared bikes are increasingly popular with both Ghent residents and tourists.
A record was set in July with 113,386 booked journeys.
Due to this success, 55 new shared bikes will be introduced into circulation in Ghent this September.
Donkey Republic currently has around 600 bikes available, Dott and Bolt collectively supply 1,000 electric models, and Blue-Bike company has 300 shared bikes on offer.
