A 44-year-old man from Houthalen-Helchteren (Limburg province) has been sentenced to 40 months in prison by the Hasselt Correctional Court on Tuesday for trafficking hashish and cocaine.

The man was also fined €16,000 and had €150,000 confiscated. The Public Prosecutor initially estimated the confiscation amount at €637,000, but the court reduced this figure.

The incidents occurred from late September 2022 to 24 December 2023. During this period, the defendant, who was previously sentenced to four years in prison in 2016 for similar offences, operated as a dealer in Hasselt and Houthalen-Helchteren.

The man admitted to the charges but refused to reveal his supplier's name, fearing retaliation against his daughter and himself.

"The seriousness of these offences shows a complete disregard for the rules, prioritising financial gain over the detriment caused by drugs and the health of consumers," the judge emphasised.
