Fewer buses and trams will run in Flanders on Monday due to a De Lijn strike organised by the joint trade union, the Flemish public transport company announced on Friday. An adjusted timetable will be available from Saturday.

Unions have expressed concerns about the work schedule for 2025. De Lijn staff have been dissatisfied with management's "unilateral communication" regarding annual planning and schedule changes, according to the General Secretary of the transport trade union, Stan Reusen.

It was eventually agreed that these issues would be discussed at the local level, as on other occasions, the union representative said. According to De Lijn's management, negotiations continued up until Thursday. However, they were unable to prevent the planned strike on Monday. "Our pressure was necessary. It is regrettable that management sought confrontation," Reusen added.

In a press release, De Lijn regretted the impact of the disruption, which will also affect school transportation services.

De Lijn noted that Monday's adjusted timetable will be available online from Saturday afternoon. Lines that will not be in service on Monday will not appear on the route planner. Small discrepancies may occur between the announced disruptions and the actual network situation on Monday.
