The Flemish Employment and Vocational Training Service, VDAB, received fewer job vacancies in September, particularly for positions requiring a diploma, according to figures from the service.

The VDAB received 25,410 vacancies last month, 8.4% less than a year ago.

Almost 11,000 of these vacancies required no formal education or only a low level of education. Nearly 5,000 required a medium level of education, and close to 10,000 required a higher vocational, bachelor’s, or master’s degree.

Vacancies requiring medium or high levels of education decreased by 16% and 11%, respectively, compared to the previous year.

Over the past twelve months, the VDAB reported more than 305,000 vacancies, 9.3% less than the twelve preceding months.

Sectors such as chemicals, textiles, transport manufacturing, IT, and construction materials saw a significant reduction in job openings.

Nevertheless, the number of vacancies remained high historically, according to the VDAB.
