A man suspected of killing Belgian priest Pol Feyen in the Democratic Republic of Congo last year has been arrested.
The news was confirmed by his family, who heard it from the Belgian consulate in Kinshasa.
Details of the arrest were not immediately available.
Father Feyen, a member of the Salesians of Don Bosco, was fatally stabbed in his room in Kinshasa on the night of 12 to 13 December 2023.
He was 82 years old and had been working in Lubumbashi and Kinshasa for many years.
Fr. Feyen founded several orphanages in Congo and cared primarily for street children, whom he called ‘papillons’, the French word for butterflies.
He also ensured that young people could learn a trade to secure their future.
Fr. Feyen is to be honoured next year with a monument in his hometown of Hechtel.
